There are three basic factors you need to take into account when making your choice.

Firstly, the style and colors should work with the architectural style and decor of your home, and of the porch or patio itself. Think about the feeling you want to create in the space, whether casual and breezy, or more elegant and formal.

Second, the comfort is also very important, particularly if you plan to spend long, lazy summer afternoons relaxing on your beautiful porch swing or patio lounge.

The third very important thing to think about when choosing porch and patio furniture cushions is how well they will withstand weathering, mildew and fading, and ultimately how long they will last.

We purchased new patio furniture last year and we spent a lot of time going to different stores, looking and sitting in patio furniture. We went to high-end stores, low-end stores and DIY stores like Home Depot.

What is important to consider when purchasing patio furniture?

From our shopping experience last year, here are the top things to consider:

Is the furniture comfortable? We saw a few nice sets but the love seat was to small and the chairs were not comfortable.
Is it sturdy enough to last? Sit in it and move a round a bit. Does it wobble? We found few sets like this as well. Looked nice but didn't feel safe.
Can you afford it? Decide on your budget before you go shopping.
Both people should go and check the furniture and sit it in it. Especially if you have narrowed it down to one or two sets. When you get it home you will both be happy.
An Aluminum frame is best. It is light and it will not rust. But it has to be what you want.
Check out the furniture you purchase at the store or as soon as you get home if it is in boxes. The first set we purchased was slightly damaged. We took it back and checked out the boxes and picked a set that was not damaged.

In the end we did not buy the most expensive furniture and we did not purchase aluminum furniture like we wanted. We were willing to pay more but we could not find an aluminum frame that we liked. In the end we purchased good quality steel framed furniture that we both liked and both found comfortable.
